Frequently asked questions
For Mentors
Our matching system is currently based on you giving us information via forms, we match you and then send you the relevant information per email. This is at the moment the easiest and quickest way to ensure a great mentorship experience for mentees and mentors!
Additionally, we recently changed our matching system. You don’t need to log sessions anymore, please just cc mentor@projectaccess.org in every email correspondence!
+ What is Project Access and how do you help?
We’re a non-profit organisation believing in fair access to top universities. That’s why we’ve created a completely free program for students from less privileged backgrounds.
At the core of the program is 1-1 mentorship, matching you with a mentor who studies your dream degree at your dream university. Alongside the mentorship, you will join an awesome community of applicants from around the world and get access to the best content and webinars that are out there.
+ How does the Project Access Program work?
To join our program and get a mentor or to apply for become a mentor you first need to click on the respective sign up button on our webpage. Then you following process happens:
1) You fill out the form and we check if you are eligible to our program.
2) We send you an E-Mail with our response. Please follow the instructions in the E-Mail.
Please schedule a training for us. During the training, we will give you information and tools to help the applicants in the best way.
3) You wait until the next program Class launches.
Sometimes it takes longer for us to assign you a mentee. This completely depends on the demand of university and subjects. If you don't hear from us for over 3 months, please reach out to admin@projectaccess.org. We have plenty of opportunities for mentors to engage at Project Access.
+ When and how will I get a mentee?
After you have applied to our first form you need to take part in one of our trainings. If you received a training and filled out our second form, your information (i.e. your school and course, etc. ) will be stored in our system. When a compatible match is made based on this information, you will receive an Email regarding “Do you want to be a mentor for xxx”. You will then need to reject or accept the match within 48 hours. If you reject the match, a new match will be made. If you accept the match, your mentee will receive an automated introduction email from you.
After approving your match, please send the mentee an E-Mail to schedule the first call - and start a great mentorship relation!
+ What does joining the Project Access Program cost?
It is 100% free.
+ How does the pairing work?
The mentors and mentees are grouped in country-specific and degree-specific programs (e.g. UK Undergraduate, Poland Postgraduate etc.). Primarily, the matching algorithm takes into account the subject of study and the type of university.
+ Can I sign up as both a mentee and a mentor?
Yes – You can apply to be a mentor as long as you have already enrolled at the university you want to mentor for. If you want to sign up as a e.g. Graduate / Postgraduate mentee just sign up as a mentee via our webpage and we will find you our best matching mentor.
+ Can I change or update my form responses?
No, that is not possible. However, if you want to change subject, university or find a new mentor, don't hesitate to reach out to us on Facebook Messenger or send us a Note - we understand the difficulty of choosing subject or you university and we will find you another great match.
+ My mentor/mentee is not answering my emails. What should I do?
Mentors have the responsibility to initiate contact after the initial pairing but feel free to email your mentor first if you are a mentee. Please understand that our mentors and mentees lead busy lives and might need time to respond to your emails. If you have sent out multiple emails but your mentor/mentee is still not responding, please reach out to us via Facebook Messenger or send us a Note.
+ I have been matched per email but heard nothing back. What should I do?
Try to email your mentor/mentee. If you have not received a response after sending out reminder emails, please reach out to us via Facebook Messenger or send us a Message.
+ I have registered as a mentor but have not heard back. What should I do?
The most likely reason for our delayed communication is that we are unsure about the timings of our next training sessions. We could also be assessing your application. If you are worried that your case has been lost, please reach out to us via Facebook Messenger or send us a Note.
+ I cannot log into my account. What should I do?
We changed our system so it is not necessary anymore to schedule sessions. Please just cc mentor@projectaccess.org in every E-Mail correspondence!
+ How do I find a link to an online conference/webinar?
All of the links to online conferences/webinars are here: https://projectaccess.org/access-academy. If a link is not available yet, please check the page again closer to the date of the conference/webinar. All of our past conferences/webinars are also recorded –– they could also be found on the same webpage.
