Meet the GLT: Global Director of Outreach
Liam Garrett is Project Access’ Global Director of Outreach. He’s been with our organization since the summer of 2020, and has recently made the switch from working on the Platform Team to joining the Global Leadership Team (GLT)!
Joining Project Access:
Recognizing his own privilege, Liam connected with PA’s mission to help students from less privileged backgrounds access leading universities. His friend, and fellow Yale student Harrison Smith (our current Chief Product Officer!), encouraged him to join.
It was quite a big leap from being involved with the Platform team to joining the GLT. His focus is now strategic planning and being at the forefront of executing PA’s goals. Ultimately, Liam provides his team with the tools for success in fulfilling the collective mission at Project Access.
The umbrella of ‘outreach’ covers all things mentee recruitment, from overseeing marketing communications to managing existing and new Country Teams. A lot of time is spent in meetings, whether he is checking in with team members or addressing any issues.
Liam is particularly proud of the shift in culture that he has instilled in his time managing the marketing team. A goal from day one has been to encourage more collaboration, being proactive, and having a positive mindset.
Looking to the future:
A year from today, Liam sees the organization becoming truly global. He is looking forward to planning the expansion of our country teams all around the globe, and to work with the rest of the GLT to have more universities represented in the programs that we have to offer!
Another important goal for the future is establishing PA’s financial sustainability and finding more innovative streams of income to enable our work.
Personal growth:
Liam’s favourite thing about being involved in Project Access is being able to form close relationships with people from all over the world. He has met so many inspiring people who encourage him to challenge how he perceives the world. In particular, he is grateful for the support of the other members of the GLT, who have been able to guide and support him when he stepped into his new role.
As a linguistics major at Yale University, it shouldn’t come as a surprise that he loves learning languages!
